Exploring Art Rage

Today in our 'Dream Station' time, we explored the app 'Art Rage'. It was challenging to become familiar with some of the tools but we persevered and learnt how to save our images or take a screenshot and upload it to our blog.

Dream Station

Our school computer hub opened this week. It was named by the students and is called 'The Dream Station'. Today we  enjoyed working in the versatile learning space. We focused on using the ipads and exploring the apps. What a fabulous asset  to our school. We also have 5 ipad minis in every class which we use to support our learning.

Loving the Library!

We love our weekly library sessions. We get stuck into reading and sharing stories, listen to books on the listening post, and learn about how the library is organised.  Our library day is every Thursday.

Rob the Nest

This week we have been playing rob the nest as part of our daily fitness. Today we also took out the class iPads and took turns being the photographer. When we returned to class we looked at how to edit an image and make a photo collage using the app pic collage. Here is one of our student examples.

Netball Stars

I really enjoyed watching some of the room two pupils playing netball this weekend. We have two middle school teams and they both looked like they were having a fabulous time on Saturday.

Pentonimoes

On Friday we used blocks to make the pentomino shapes of the alphabet. As groups we had to use set pieces to make rectangles of different sizes. There was some fabulous problem solving going on!

Role Playing 'Cool' Choices

Today we reviewed what a 'cool' choice is. When we make a cool choice we say what we mean politely, we use kind words, stand tall, and make eye contact. We are learning that making weak choices (sulking and crying) don't improve the situation, and that aggro choices (hitting, kicking, swearing) make the situation worse. We enjoyed using the puppets to role play what cool choices look like.

Reading Together

Our weekly reading programme includes a wide variety of activities. We read in guided groups with the teacher, enjoy shared books, listen to stories on the computers and ipads, buddy read, and do many prediction and follow up responses.
Here we are enjoying reading to a buddy. Check out the Handy daily reading tip on the side of this blog.

Camp Ohiwa

I was so impressed with all of you at our camp! You were resilient and tried new things...even when they were challenging! Our camp was filled with fun. I hope you have all recovered and caught up on some well needed sleep! Vote for your top five camp activities in the poll on this blog.

Optical Illusion of the Week

Slime!

Mrs Wylie lent us her bucket of slime. We all stuck our hands in and described the sensation, then came up with some ideas in a simple poem.

Slime

Gooey, sticky, sloppy sludge.

Like a bucket of squashed caterpillars!

It sticks to my hands and oozes between my fingers.

It's like a bucket of Giant's snot!

Disgusting, revolting, sticky slime!

Touch Tournament

Today three of our classmates represented the school in a local touch tournament. They weren't victorious this time, but had fun and worked well as a team. Great effort Raimee, Caleb, and Harry!

Pohutukawa

Our art is simply stunning! We wrote some lovely cameos to go with our pictures. What aspiring authors.

The twisted gnarled branches hold singing birds and dancing butterflies. They make everybody happy with their music flowing to your ears. It’s engine red flowers look stunning on the tree. The flowers are like red hot needles. They are blowing my mind! The memory of them brings you happiness wherever you are.  By Angus
I quickly walk to the velvety red pohutukawa tree. The fiery flowers look like the Apanui School uniform. The tree looks like it’s on fire! The flowers are like needles…hundreds and thousands of tiny needles. It looks as though they have golden glitter sprinkled over them!
By Jazmin
I see luscious red flowers reaching up for the stars. The twisted branches twirl like snakes. They reach up to the sky and grip the leaves. The tree never wants to let them go because they are his treasures.
By Raimee
The Pohutukawa flowers look like fire. They are bright red and have soft spikes that are dusted with yellow pollen. The tree branches are tangled like thick rope.
By Logan
It has twirly branches that reach up to the sky. The velvety flowers look sharp and pointy but when you touch them they are soft. The colour is like ripe cherries with tips of gold. When a gust of wind comes, the green leaves blow silently. In summer the flowers brighten the tree into blood red.

Camp Countdown!

We are off to camp on Monday! Make sure you are here on time with all of your gear. If you have misplaced your clothing list, check the Team Blog! Yippee! We're going to Ohiwa!

Paper Plate Profiles

These have been up for a couple of weeks. The children completed these as a homework task, allowing their teacher and classmates to gain some insight into who they are, and what their passions and talents are. They look awesome!

Statistics

Today we collected data for a statistical investigation on the colour of cars in the school car-park. We are learning that the information we collect needs to be accurate. As we all ended up with varying answers, it is clear we need more work in this area! There were even debates over the actual colour of the cars!

Last Month's VIP's

The children who earn the most ticks on our VIP chart each week earn a small prize and the class contribute by making positive comments to add to their certificate. Well done Angus, Kyra, and Kiera...our last three VIP's!
We all wrote stories at the start of term about what makes us a very important person. Come and read our work.
